As an alternative to very analytical engineering, I find the artisan-ship of making chain maille with my hands to be calming. It is very much like knitting, but with metal rings rather than yarn, and with two sets of pliers rather than knitting needles. I have also taught the techniques and numerous weaves to others -- this has proven to be quite a popular hands-on activity for adults and youth alike at Maker Faires and similar events. A few examples are pictured.
